Please, pay attention: Vasari Corridor currently under major reconstruction.

Our guide will pick you up at the hotel or wherever you prefer, the walk you will start is an introduction to the tour of the Uffizi and Vasari Corridor. Together you will admire Piazza della Signoria, the political heart of the city, with the imposing town-hall Palazzo Vecchio. Next to the square you will see the Uffizi courtyard and you will be charmed by the magnificence and at the same time by the architectural balance of the Gallery’s building.

In 1560 Cosimo I de’Medici wanted a place to house the offices, the uffizi, of the Florentine magistrates that is why he put the project and the building of the Gallery into the skilful hands of Giorgio Vasari. Just one year after the building of the palace was finished, in 1581, the son of Cosimo, Francesco I decided to close the loggia, the last floor of the Gallery, and destined it to become his personal gallery in order to house his extraordinary collection of paintings, statues, goldsmithry, medals and hardstone carvings. The Uffizi Gallery, the most ancient museum in Europe, holds within its walls masterpieces by great artists.

With our guide you will retrace the History of Art by admiring works of art from Cimabue to Caravaggio, passing through masterpieces by Giotto, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Titian, Raphael and Botticelli, whose Primavera and The birth of Venus will take your breath away. Usually during the visit the take a short break to enjoy a coffee together and mostly to relish of the splendid view of Florence that the Uffizi Gallery offers.
Through a door, under the portrait of the last descendant of the Medici family, Anna Maria Luisa, we will enter the Vasari Corridor, one of the most exclusive museums Florence has to offer.

The corridor is an elevated enclosed passageway that joins Palazzo Vecchio, the old palace of the administration of power, with Pitti Palace, the residence of the grand dukes. Almost a kilometre long, the corridor with its windows overlooking on the river, offers a splendid view of the city. We will see painting of the Roman and Neapolitan Schools that date back to the 16th and 17th century and the unique and splendid self-portrait collection starting from Vasari and continuing with the ones of Tintoretto, Bernini, Rubens, Canova, Ingres Delacroix, Chagall just to mention some, including the copy of Leonardo da Vinci’s self-portrait.

The corridor leads to Palazzo Pitti, the Renaissance palace that the Grand dukes bought in 1549 and became the main residence of the Medici Family, here our guided tour ends.
