{"id":524,"date":"2024-12-27T13:10:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-27T12:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/exclusiveconnection.it\/blog\/?p=524"},"modified":"2025-06-13T16:38:14","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T14:38:14","slug":"stories-and-facts-about-the-vasari-corridor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/exclusiveconnection.it\/blog\/en\/stories-and-facts-about-the-vasari-corridor\/","title":{"rendered":"Stories and facts about the Vasari Corridor"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong>Vasari Corridor is one the most renowned secret passages in the world<\/strong>: since the late Renaissance it connects the Uffizi Gallery to the Pitti Palace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Here we <strong>listed some curiosities and facts<\/strong> of this hidden passage of Florence!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1565<\/strong> when the <strong>Grand Duke Cosimo I commissioned<\/strong> the corridor in connection with the marriage of his son Francesco with Johanna d&#8217;Austria;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5<\/strong> months needed by architect Giorgio Vasari to build the Vasari Corrdor, which took its name;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1.000<\/strong> meters is th<strong>e lenght<\/strong> of this enclosed passageway connecting Palazzo Vecchio to Pitti Palace;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-308 size-full\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"516\" src=\"https:\/\/exclusiveconnection.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1vasari-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-527\" srcset=\"https:\/\/exclusiveconnection.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1vasari-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/exclusiveconnection.it\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1vasari-1-300x202.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Design by Giorgio Pomella<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>700<\/strong> were the portraits of artists collected in the Vasari Corridor, making it one of the largest collections in the world;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3<\/strong> are the <strong>segmental arches that are the basement of the Ponte Vecchio<\/strong>, whose innovative construction inspired the construction of the Rialto Bridge in Venice;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1593<\/strong> when the Grand Dukes <strong>banned butchers&#8217; shops<\/strong> from Ponte Vecchio, allowing only goldsmiths and jewelers;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4 <\/strong>are the<strong> monuments and buildings crossed by the enclosed passageway<\/strong>: Palazzo Vecchio, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exclusiveflorencetours.com\/en\/tour.php?t=29&amp;n=early-entrance-uffizi-tour\">Uffizi Gallery<\/a>, Ponte Vecchio, Santa Felicita Church and the Grotto of Buontalenti in the Boboli Gardens;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1<\/strong> is the tower left from the construction: <strong>Torre dei Mannelli<\/strong> because the Mannelli family didn&#8217;t leave the house and Vasari had to build the corridor around the tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Prince Passage from Palazzo Vecchio to Uffizi Gallery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Path of the Prince is the beginning of the Vasari Corridor<\/strong>, commissioned to <strong>Giorgio Vasari in 1565<\/strong> by the Grand Duke Cosimo I to connect the government palace (Palazzo Vecchio) to the public offices (Uffizi Gallery) and his residence in Oltrarno (Pitti Palace).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initial part of the Vasari Corridor was <strong>closed to the public during the 19th century<\/strong>, and in more than 100 years it has been opened and used only for private and official ceremonies and events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vist the Vasari Corridor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Varasi Corridor is now <\/strong>open to the public with a special ticket.
